Housing
For good or bad, depending on your outlook, Montpelier has been discovered, so the housing market has changed in the past several years. Median asking price for a single family home is about $87,500 and median rent is $519.
Much of the housing stock in the city is pre-World War II, and about 40 percent of it is occupied by renters. The city, colleges and citizen groups are engaged in numerous efforts to increase the amount and quality of housing. One task force in particular is encouraging the development of affordable single family homes in existing neighborhoods.
