Communities
Montpelier, though small, has a variety of neighborhoods. Its Downtown and Statehouse neighborhoods are predominantly commercial and institutional, but do offer residential options.
College Hill: Home to Vermont College, this area is almost strictly residential, much of it catering to students.
Barre Street: Mix of residential and commercial, but with some of its single-family homes being converted for office use.
The Meadow: Located adjacent to Hubbard Park, this turn-of-the-century neighborhood is a favorite residential area.
Lane Shops: Across the North Branch River from The Meadow, this neighborhood includes a former mill converted for senior and family housing.
National Life/Northfield/Mountain View Drive: Home to many of National Life’s employees, this is an emerging community.
Upper Elm/Town Hill: This is a growing suburban-like area within the city.
